Of the 65 residents at the home, 35 are in single rest home bedrooms and 30 are in our recently refurbished long term care hospital.
All bedrooms in the Home have built-in wardrobes and drawers and are furnished with a bed, bedside cabinet and chair. A nurse call button is located next to each bed. Residents who wish to are free to personalise their rooms as much as they like by bringing in their own TV, a favourite armchair, pictures and any other items they like to make the room their own. (Please note, however, that Rannerdale does not have facilities for the long term storage of personal possessions over and above these.)
Registered nurses are on duty 24 hours a day as a part of a team of dedicated and well trained staff committed to caring for the health and well-being of our residents. The staff at the Home are supported by a full range of health professionals:
| * The Home has its own medical practitioner who holds twice weekly clinics at the Home and is available on call as required, although residents coming into the Home are free to retain their own doctor if they wish.
* A physiotherapist visits weekly to help those residents with mobility difficulties retain and, where possible, improve their mobility and independence. * An occupational therapist and social worker are part of a multidisciplinary approach to care. * A podiatry clinic is held at six weekly intervals for residents referred by the doctor. * A hairdresser visits the Home fortnightly. |
|
| Premium Hospital Bedrooms - Rannerdale has eighthospital bedrooms that are designated as premium rooms. These rooms are considerably larger in floorarea than standard bedrooms and each room has direct access to an en-suite bathroom that it shares with its neighbouring room. A premium hospital room will be provided at the request of the resident and is dependent upon a premium room being available. A small daily surcharge is charged for a premium hospital room. |
|
| Rannerdale is very much the residents' 'home', and residents are encouraged to continue a lifestyle as similar as possible to that which they would choose were they still living in their own homes. Residents are free to come and go according to their ability, and to make as much or as little use of the available facilities and activities as they choose. | ||||||
Facilities available to residents include a raised indoor bowls table, a well stocked and ever-changing library which includes large print books, several lounges, Sky TV Sports and Rugby channels free into all residents bedrooms, weekly Catholic and monthly non-denominational church services. The Home's Activities Department provides a wide variety of activities for residents who wish to participate. These include regular drives and outings, entertainers and singing groups, bowls matches against other rest homes, housie, and other in-house activities. There are also interest groups such as The Film Club, Travel Club and on regular occasions we have guest speakers covering different topics of interest. |

Residents who require individual activities will also have these arranged for them. The Department is managed by a registered occupational therapist. ANZAC Day is, of course, a significant event in the annual calendar and is commemorated with a service at the Home with participation from the armed forces. Residents are at all times encouraged to maintain their links with the community, and the family and friends of residents are always made to feel welcome when they visit. |
Rannerdale Home provides temporary care to eligible persons in situations where carers for these people in the community are either unable to provide care for a limited period or are simply in need of a break.
Residents receiving respite care or carer support can be assured of the same comprehensive standard of care and attention to their personal needs as that provided to our permanent residents.
Acceptance for respite care or carer support is dependent on the availability of a bed at the time required.
