Rannerdale Veterans Hospital and Home gratefully acknowledges and thanks those organisations and individuals who have generously assisted with the work being carried out at the Home.

Introduction

Owned and operated by the Rannerdale Trust, Rannerdale Veterans Hospital and Home is a not-for-profit organisation charged with providing care to war veterans and other ex-service people, both in a residential setting and increasingly, in the community.

While the Home’s day-to-day operating expenses are covered by fees paid by private paying residents and subsidies from contracting agencies including the Ministry of Health, funding does not cover the costs associated with major purchases of new equipment the Home deems necessary to maintain and improve the quality of care that we provide. We are therefore always very appreciative of additional funds that enable us to cover these costs.

You can help our work by making a donation.

As a registered charity, all donations over NZ$5.00 qualify for a tax rebate in accordance with Inland Revenue rules. We will issue a receipt for all donations, so please ensure that you provide us with a contact address so that your receipt can be forwarded on to you.

We are very grateful for all donations and will happily acknowledge your donation on this website if that is your wish.

Enquiries

Should you have any queries about making a donation or about any of the information provided on this page, please feel free to contact our General Manager, Steve Shamy, or our Financial Manager, Michael Moore at any time during office hours.

Steve Shamy is available to speak to groups in the community about the work that is done at Rannerdale, and welcomes approaches from community groups who may be interested in having him as a speaker. Refer to our Contacts Page for details on how Steve may be contacted.

How to Make a Donation

Rannerdale Veterans Home and Hospital gratefully accepts donations at all times. Donations may be made by -
Cash or Cheque: Cash donations and cheques will be gratefully accepted at the Rannerdale reception desk at 59 Hansons Lane in Upper Riccarton. Our reception desk is open between 8.30am and 4.00pm from Monday to Friday (closed public holidays). If you are posting a cheque, please send it to the following address.

Donating Equipment: Some people would prefer to donate equipment rather than make a gift of money. If you would like to pursue this option, please talk to our General Manager, Steve Shamy. Steve will be able to provide guidance on the equipment that we require that will be most value to our residents within the cost limits of what you would like to donate.
Pledged Regular Donations: Rather than make a donation in a single payment, you may prefer to make a pledge for a particular amount and then spread the payments for this amount at set intervals over a period that you choose. Should you wish to make a donation using this method, we can help you by reminding you when your pledges are due. Alternatively, you may prefer to set up an automatic payment through your bank.
Automatic Payment: You can make regular contributions by setting up an automatic payment through your bank. This enables you to donate a set amount at regular intervals to suit yourself. For example you may choose to donate at monthly, quarterly or six monthly intervals.
In April of each year we will send you a receipt showing the total amount of your donation so that you can claim this amount in your tax return.
Funeral Donations: Many people will specify that funeral donations go to Rannerdale Veterans Hospital and Home, often in lieu of flowers. This option should be discussed with your funeral director.

A Gift by Bequest: A bequest is simply a gift made through your Will. It can be a specific sum of money, a proportion of your estate, a particular asset, or the residue of your estate after you have provided for family and friends. If you wish, you can also direct that your Bequest be used for a specific purpose.

In general and without limit as to value, property given to a charity is exempt from Inheritance Tax. However, we recommend that you seek the advice of your solicitor and accountant when drafting your Will.

In order to make a bequest, a statement will need to be included in your Will such as that below:

I give and bequeath the sum of:
___________________________________________dollars $ ___________
or a description of property
to the Rannerdale Foundation under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957
for ___________________________________________________________
a specific purpose or general purposes
A receipt given on behalf of Rannerdale Veterans Hospital and Home will be a complete discharge to my Trustee for my legacy.

Donations from a Trust: By establishing a Trust, either while living or as a part of your Will, you can provide Rannerdale with income from retained assets or with a settlement of money or assets on an ongoing or one-off basis. If you wish to consider establishing a Trust, you should consult with your solicitor.

Investment Income: Income from investments can be assigned to Rannerdale. Similarly, you could if you prefer make Rannerdale the beneficiary of a life insurance policy if this is not needed for other purposes. Again, we would recommend that you seek the advice of financial experts if you are considering either of these options.

Support from Community Groups and Clubs

Rannerdale Veterans Hospital and Home has had a close association over the years with a number of community organisations and clubs, many of whom have generously assisted us through their donations of money, equipment, and often their time by way of working bees, etc.

Any group or club that is interested in the work that is done at Rannerdale and may have an interest in supporting this work should contact the General Manager, Steve Shamy. As stated above, Steve is pleased to talk to community groups about our work.

Support from Business

Many businesses choose to support Rannerdale in different ways, ranging from monetary donations through to the provision of services or products either free of charge or at a reduced price. A high value is placed on the relationships that Rannerdale has formed with contributing businesses over the years, and the contributions of business sponsors will be acknowledged both on this website and through other appropriate means.
Any business interested in making a donation or in sponsoring the Home by some other means is encouraged to contact the General Manager.
